BESPOKE WINCH ASSEMBLY PACKAGE ACROSS MULIPLE PLATFORMS & VESSELS
Coordinating bespoke logistics, offshore assembly and technical expertise to deploy eight winch packages safely across multiple platforms and vessels.
Overview
EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED
4 x 20te Winch
2 x 35te Winch
2 x 80Te Winch
Motive managed the delivery and offshore mobilisation of a spread of eight winch packages (ranging from 20Te–80Te) to support a 9-month campaign for downending activities of three separate riser guards.
Serving five distinct assets (three platforms and two vessels), the project required integrated technical planning to ensure all equipment met rigorous safety and performance standards during multi-phase deployment.

The Challenge
Managing the scope across five assets during the nine-month campaign required agile planning and continuous coordination. Motive responded by flexibly deploying offshore personnel and resources to meet operational demands, delivering the project efficiently while maintaining consistency across all phases of the scope.
A significant challenge arose due to crane limitations on the platform, which had a maximum lifting capacity of 16Te. This made it impossible to lift the fully assembled 80Te winch into position.
As a result, standard transport and installation were not viable. The winch needed to be disassembled and transported offshore. The equipment was split into multiple components, including a separate winch frame and two containers of parts, requiring a carefully planned packing procedure and logistics planning. The winch was reassembled offshore with Motive personnel, done safely and efficiently on the platform. Once the scope was complete, the winch was disassembled
again and transported back to Motive base.
Our Solution
To overcome these challenges, Motive tailored the transportation and put procedures in place to complete the project:
• Created a bespoke assembly procedure for offshore by Motive’s Manufacturing Team.
• HAZID Risk Assessment session held with Client and platform to identify hazards and create a risk assessment.
• Deployed a skilled fitter from Motive’s workshop to lead and supervise the offshore reassembly process.
• Manufactured a bespoke jacking kit to lift and secure the winch pedestal during assembly offshore.
