Developing the next generation
At our Kintore facility, we’re proud to support the next generation of offshore professionals. Meet Mitchell Hewitt, Trainee Offshore Hose Technician, and Clark Tosh, Trainee Offshore Inspector, two trainees building their careers through hands-on experience, learning opportunities, and a shared drive to progress.

Mitchell joined Motive in September 2025 as a Trainee Offshore Hose Technician. From day one, his role has given him hands-on exposure both in the workshop and offshore. “I’ve been learning how hoses and fittings are identified and inspected while out in the offshore field,” he explains. “Some days I’m helping with maintenance on rental equipment in the workshop, other days I’m offshore dealing with hose inspections and fittings. It really does vary day to day.”
That variety was one of the key reasons Mitchell chose Motive. “There are so many opportunities here and real room for personal development,” he says. “You’re encouraged to learn, progress, and take on new challenges.” One challenge in particular stands out. “My proudest moment so far was completing a rope access job replacing pipes 70 metres high. It pushed me, but it was a great achievement.”
For Mitchell, the chance to combine work with travel is a major highlight. “The best thing about working at Motive is getting to explore the world while doing a job I love,” he says. Outside of work, you’ll often find him watching football with friends or exploring new places and cultures - something that fits perfectly with his ambition to keep learning and progressing.

Working alongside Mitchell at Kintore is Clark, a Trainee Offshore Inspector, whose route into the offshore industry took a different path. Before joining Motive, Clark worked as a Roofer and Cladder, gaining valuable experience working safely at height in challenging weather conditions. “Those foundations really helped me transition into offshore work,” he explains.
Clark was drawn to Motive by the opportunity to build a long-term career, and like Mitchell, he enjoys the variety the role brings. “A typical day can look very different depending on the job,” he says. “Some days I’m in the workshop maintaining or testing spoolers, other days I’m offshore carrying out inspections using rope access or checking lifting gear to make sure everything is safe to use.”
For Clark, development and progression are what set Motive apart. “The best thing about working here is the opportunity for growth,” he says. “You’re supported to develop skills, gain new certifications, and take on more responsibility as you progress.”
Completing his training courses and writing his first inspection reports marked an early career milestone, and he already has his sights set on the future. “In five years, I want to have deeper technical knowledge and be fully competent across all areas of inspection.”
Both trainees share similar advice for anyone considering a career in the industry. Mitchell encourages young people to “jump at opportunities and stay open-minded about learning new things,” while Clark adds, “Never think twice about starting something completely new, take every opportunity to learn.”
Their journeys highlight what life at Motive is all about: hands-on experience, continuous learning, and the support to build a career you can be proud of.
